Use aggression and fear to dominate sit n go satellites

Well today is Sunday and I have to say it is definitely the day of the poker player. Pokerstars will have over 150,000 players online tonight. With massive prize pools. The big tournament everyone wants to play is the Sunday million, which really is now the Sunday million and half. The guarantee for it is $1.5 Million with over $200,000 going to first place now on a regular basis. The buy-in is $215. That is not easily afford by the masses, there are however thousands of ways to satellite into the tournament.

You can pick from scheduled satellites or the Sit n Go style satellites. My personal favourite is the $10.70+$1 double shoot out. It has 2 seats guaranteed to the Sunday Million and when full has 4 seats to Sunday million and if you make it to the final table your guarantee at least a cash of $35. It is in the format of ten Sit'n'Goes each has up to ten players. The goal is to win your first table to go through to the final “money” table. This really suits Sit'n'go players. You play a double shoot out exactly the same as Sit'n'go. The first table your are aiming to accumulate all the chips only the first place counts. You have to be more aggressive and build chips in this.

Now being aggressive does not mean you put your chips your whole stack at risk. Your aiming to takes lots of little uncontested pots. If you find yourself in a pot take a stab at it once you know no one is interested in it. Bet between 1/2 and 2/3 of the pot. This gives you between to 2-1 1.5-1 odds on your money. If you think you can win the pot more than 50-75% of the time it becomes profitable on its own. You will eventually build up a nice stack and because of your aggressiveness you will have built up a nice chip margin over the other players. The bigger the stack you have the more people will fear your aggression.

You will find having controlled aggression will have your opponents running scared. It is psychological difficult for most players to play you when you have them out chipped and short stacked. They become weaker and weaker. They start calling more with hands they shouldn't and then they will fold once the miss on the flop. You start to pick up more and more chips like a magnet.

Once you win the first table you should have $35 in the bank assuming the tournament was full. You now need to play a different game. You want accumulate chips still but people will play a lot looser having won $35. You want that $215 ticket! You will have to pick your spots more carefully here. At least until you get to 6-5 left this is usually the guys who are desperate to get the ticket. Can you smell their fear again? They do not want to go out now. What was once someone with balls of steal in there first round is now a nervous wreck. It is time for you punish this weakness.

Weakness in your opponents will allow you to build a stack with relative ease while putting the other players into survival mindset. Raise and steal from the weakest ones first to build your stack. But do not become a pig and knock them out they are useful. Once you have got the weak players chipped down enough you want to go after the guys with chips. Are you thinking why? Well if you are not you should be. The guys with chips have become relaxed and tight. They do not need to fight and are not looking for a fight. You are doing the work for them. They will concede their blinds and ante's to you. They are guaranteed a ticket almost they want the little guy to go out. So they will constantly fold to you. This is how you build your stack so that you can then push all the players around. Once you are chipped up if they fight back against you it is too late. They cant hurt you. But you can cause them a whole world of pain.

So remember this the next time you play a double shoot-out.

Variance

Well have been running a stake for the corporation on PokerStaking.com and it is truely going bad. Im not winning no matter what I do. I keep getting in hands where im 70/30 preflop then I see the river and sigh. Decided to play one game at a time at moment. That way I can concentrate even more on my game and if a bad hand happens i dont go bad in more than one game giving me a cool off period. I had noticed I would get run of cards and play both tourneys as if I were getting hands on both tables and in general playing hands way to fast I know its turbo's but i can take time to think.

Anyways if you about visit us at PokerStaking.com - Forums and you can join in the fun.

Some Stud

Was playing some low limit stud yesturday first time in a while. finished game a couple cents down was just killing time. Was quite funny though as guy who decided to semi-bluff got called by a guy/girl who made pair of eights on 7th street and continued to call him down. Was very funny as he went nuts at her lol. Must of spent 15-20 minutes berating him over it i think he lost 24 cents. It kept me amused.

On a side not the site im working PokerStaking.com has started to see an increase in the members joining up ranking on front page of google is a big plus.

Gotta work on method for tracking and providing cake properly.

Honours Project

I thought since I have started a blog it would be an idea to post bit about what I'm doing in my honours project. Hopefully I will be useful for writing my final honours report.

The basis for this project was originally from the guy who create poki poker(A Poker Robot) now known as the poker academy. The idea originally was take the old poki poker and replicate and improve on what had been done before. Implementing a tool that users could learn from this poker bot was the concept. It has since morphed from simple pokerbot into system that be able to replicated human opponents instead of robot who's aim was to maximise win rate. Robots action's are governed by a fixed set of rules for playing against all players. Having a robot playing this way however is not much use when in comes to training however as a good player will constantly beat a robot due its inablity to randomize its game in an organic manner.

Scenario Based Teaching the other option. How to define a scenario, taking limit texas hold 'em heads up as an example there was four main parent Scenarios (Preflop, flop, turn, river). There is also six Actions that can happen on each round (bet, raise, reraise, call, check, fold) and with two player playing gives thirty distinct actions per round these action can be defined as scenarios.
